Alyss Rivera is complicated, but who isn't? She has just broken up with her boyfriend of one year. Lost and rediscovering herself she finds solace in her friends and, mainly, books which are never in short supply.
Miss Rivera is not at all lacking in quirks. Fire is quite fearsome, but you can almost always find a lit candle in her room. She is hypocritical, has a good heart, and is a bit of a flirt. But don't you dare try any funny business with her; she's a lady, born and bred. You can normally find her joking around with a few boys as she prefers their company to other girls. When not enjoying the presence of friends she can be found either reading in her room or under a tree, weather permitting, or baking in the kitchen. Much like everyone else, a deep soft spot for chocolates and sweets is drilled in the very fibers of her being.
Sweet and compliant with a stubborn streak a mile wide, she is just trying to fit in. Pleasing others pleases her. Don't get her fired up though; this emotional firecracker'll rip you a new one if she feels like it. Everything she does has passion in it.

Sounds peachy, but what's this chick look like? Think "Girl Next Door". Long blond hair is Alyss's prized possession. Don't dare ask her to part with it. Often either flat ironed or curled into great big ringlets Alyss uses her hair as her favorite accessory.
Her bright blue eyes with hope shining for the future are almost always encased in a coat of black mascara. Take a look through her peepers and you'll see a world of optimism where nothing can truly go wrong. But Alyss doesn't believe in that poppycock. How in the world are you supposed to see someone's soul through their eyes?
And then her smile... Don't get me started on her smile. Give her 5 minutes with a group of crotchety old men and, I guarantee you, she can make at least half of them cheer up. She really does have a contagious smile. And, to make it even better, she nearly always has one dancing on her lips.

Child: Alyss has few memories of her early childhood. The first memory she can recall is of blowing bubbles on her front lawn. At about age five, she would guess, she is dancing barefoot through her yard with a bubble wand in her hands.
Middle Schooler: Ah, the years of sweet childhood love. She remembers well developing her first serious crush. The more vivid memories she has of that dear boy are the ones of late. The memories where he no longer talks to her. It was a classic scenario of friendship being ruined by stronger feelings. The day she confessed how she really felt about him is the day they feel apart. Though he vowed to remain friends, they haven't had a conversation since.
Teenager: As a teenager Alyss learned what it meant to truly love. Or, at least, that's what she thinks. This is the age at which she picked up her first boyfriend. She was head over heels for him, and they were inseparable. All of their friends said they'd end up married even though they were only 16. As things progressed many faults were uncovered in both Alyss and her knight in shinning armor.
Now: Trying to differentiate between what is and what was is an increasingly difficult task. Picking up the pieces of herself, rebuilding, and recovering from the shock of the break up is her main task right now. Well, that and trying to not hurl on the world. It must be nerves, but ever since he cut himself out of her world Alyss hasn't been able to go a day without be nauseous at least once. Friends have assured her it's just a stage and to that she clings to. How terrible would it be to live a life always sick to your stomach, unable to get over the guy who crushed you. Despite the pain there is reason to rejoice. In retrospect Alyss sees the controlling ways of her ex her that friends and family had seen since the beginning.

Her newest book was open in her lap, but Alyss hadn't touched it for a good 10 minutes. A couple walking past had caught her eye and diverted her attention from the novel. So young and in love the sight of them was an open wound to her eyes. With her jacket sleeve she slapped at the tear gracefully sliding down her cheek. Cursing at herself for allowing her mind to wander back to thoughts of him she closed her eyes and gently pressed the heels of her palms into them. She didn't know she had company until she felt a pair of shoes pressed against her own. Her best friend for 5 years was sitting opposite of Alyss on the ground, her feet stretched out until the two girls's soles met.
"Him again, huh?" Asked Mallory in a quiet voice.
Alyss sighed in response.
"You coming to my party later?"
At these words Alyss came back to life. Her hands swept her bangs behind her ears and she opened her eyes.
"Party? With whom?"
"Oh, you know. You, me, Whitney, Chris. The boys," Mallory's voice kept even while referring to the other two members of their close circle, but it had a sweeter note on the last two words. Alyss had a soft spot for 'the boys' as she liked to refer to them. Nico and Devlyn were the guys who could get her mind off of anything. Life was always fun, easy, and worry-free around them. Obviously, she adored messing around with the two.
"I suppose I could free up some time," Alyss joked. "Wanna go shopping later? I'd love to knock the guys out. I'm thinking... a strapless dress that comes down to my knees? Short, fun, and flirty. What do you think?"
"Sound lovely, m'darling," Mallory said reaching for Alyss's hand.
