Personality;
Colton could be figured it out in a simple math equation:
Cigarettes + hockey + angst and anger - girls + more hockey + dickish qualities + concern for little sister + even more hockey = Colton
First and foremost, Colton loved his baby sister. You messed with Juno, you died. He would come after you with a hockey stick and a full hockey team behind him.
You did not mess with Juno.
He had become quite protective of her over the years, within obvious and justifiable reason. He took the title of her protector without being asked. As he couldn't actually save her, he had to do something, right?
The whole thing that had happened to his sister had made Colton quite bitter over the years; especially when it was discovered that his cells were apparently not good enough to save her. And thus, the bitterness was taken out on other people, making him an asshole to most. If he liked you, he'd be the most loyal, sweetest person you'd ever know.
If he didn't, he just may make you cry without even thinking about it.
Anger. Never should a young man be as angry as he. Perhaps that was why he was so good at hockey (he got into a few fights ever season, granted). It built up until he popped, and someone got hurt. Judging by his size and stature, it usually wasn't him, but it sometimes was.
Now, most boys start noticing girls when they were in their preteen years. Colton, however, did not. He was too busy with going to the hospital with his sister and going to hockey practice to stare at girls. So, our dear Colton is what we call an 'A sexual'. He had, of course, gone through a few girlfriends, but had always been dumped when he was indifferent towards how the relationship was going. One girlfriend had once accused him of loving hockey more than he loved her.
He had been honest and ended up with a handprint on his left cheek when he told her she was right.
Interested girls that confronted him were usually shot down, though once in a while, he'd partake in a relationship. They did not, however, usually last long.
Appearance;
Colton is the type that would probably distract you from whatever you were doing when you initially saw him. He had been average and a little scrawny when he was younger, however once he got into hockey, that changed drastically.
Colton had inherited his father's height, and stood at a good six-foot-two. His muscles were rather impressive, due to intensive and near-constant training for his hockey, (Yes, his hockey), and his build might intimidate men and put women into a tizzy-fit of giggles. His skin held a soft golden glow, due to his partially Spanish hetiage, and it never faded--it only got darker with all the time he spent outside.
His face was well-chiseled and formed, and quite nice to look at. His cheekbones were strong and defined, as well as his chin, and his lips were full. Almost classically handsome, if you would. There was an almost invisible scar on his right cheek (often mistaken for a dimple, actually) from a bad hockey incident in highschool, and another scar above his left eyebrow. Neither are really visible, though the one in his cheek was when he smiled. Eyes were a dark brown, nearly black; smoldering a bit most of the time, if you would. Those eyes were well-set in his handsome face, and although a rather dull color, were quite nice.
His hair was a dark brown in color, sometimes lighter due to the sun. He had kept it shaggier in his highschool days, though kept it shorter once he hit college--long hair was a pain in the ass to fit under a hockey helmet. It was rather thick (annoying, in his opinion), and straight, despite the fact that most of his family had curls.
He dressed well, thanks to his father having a decent job (and he had an okay one back in Boston himself). Jeans were, of course, his favorite, and he had a liking of button-downs and nice tee-shirts as well. No, he wasn't gay, he just liked looking nice.
Celebrity PB; Sean Faris (also known as God's gift to women).
History;
No endings are every happy--that fairytale stuff they feed you when you're a kid is just bullshit. Colton Valla had learned that the hard way at a young age. However, he had his moments in the sun before things went terrible--his three years before his sister was born, and the two years before she was diagnosed. Those were the memories he held dear, but they were slipping away as time ticked by. Sadly, that was what happened.
He had been very young when life was 'happy', and thus, couldn't remember it much.
He had been five when bruises began to randomly appear on his younger sister (Juno). Juno started getting more tired than usual, and slept far more than what was normal. And then the bruises started coming. Their mother had assumed that her little girl was just clumsy, and kept a very careful eye on her. However, even though the girl was never let out of her mother's sight, bruises kept appearing. She was brought to hospital by worried parents and an annoyed brother, who wanted to be home playing hockey with his friends.
At first, the medical staff just assumed it was anemia, and sent her home without a proper examination and with the correct medication. Anemia was common among children, so they had, of course, just glanced at the tell-tale bruises before diagnosing her. However, the bruises kept appearing, and her mother retured with Juno. The doctors did more research, and the actual diagnosis was rather grim. Anemia was, in fact, a symptom of her actual diagnosis. APL.
In other words, leukemia. Acute promyelocytic leukemia, to be exact.
Their lives as they knew them were changed. Juno and Colton's childhood revolved around hospital visits, remissions and relapses, and countless procedures. His medical vocabulary by the time he was thirteen may have stumped some highly trained and well-paid professionals.
This may seem bad enough, but things only got worse for the family. Juno's condition was worsening, and they desperately needed to find a donor. They had said that siblings were generally the best bet, and so Colton was tested--for everything. And every single one of the tests came out negative.
He was useless. He couldn't save her.
Thankfully, a donor was found within their family--their younger cousin Antigone. She wasn't perfect, though good enough--they were desperate. So, a little girl with no knowledge of what the hell was going on could save his sister, but he couldn't. Nothing had ever angered him more, though he had to learn to accept it.
His sister found remission around her eleven birthday. He, like any other fourteen-year-old boy, though the disease to be gone, despite the fact that the doctor's insisted she continue treatment. The remission remained for years, and he felt no guilt in going off to college on a sport's scholarship for hockey when he was seventeen.
He, along with the rest of his family, should have known that good things never last.
He got a call during his junior year of college (AKA, now), and was told to come home to good ol' Forks. His sister had relapsed, and she had relapsed badly. He had gone to the Dean of his school, who told him to take all the time that he needed, and said all his work would be sent to their home (a rare, yet kind deed). And then, he was sent off.
Colton had forgotten how much he freaking hated Forks. Washington was a drag for him now. He had been going to Boston College, and had grown quite fond of the city. And now, he was stuck back where he came from, ina rather depressing atmosphere.
All in all, he wanted out, and he wanted his sister to be better.

*So. Yeah. Antigone was Juno's donor when she was younger (nine and below). Now, Juno needs her again, but Annie's kinda screwed (Well, more-so Jun is), because she really can't donate much due to all the drugs she took.
And Colton, Annie, Juno, and Kate are all related, xD.
