Granted, it was four in the morning, this girl was not sleeping. The dark, bruise-like shadows under her eyes indicated that she hadn't slept in quite some time, and that she should indeed be curled up snug in a warm. But that wasn't the case. The girl was sitting in the back yard of a neighbors house. That can sound perfectly normal if you can convince yourself that she knew the people, yet once again, that was not the case.
As cold and crisp as the air was, her pale feet were still plunged deep in the black water of the family's pond, ivory hands propping her body up as she gripped the dark grass. Teal blue eyes were half open as she glared into the ripping water, lips moist and slightly parted. The house she was behind was no less then absolutely gorgeous, a strange sight in that neighborhood.
It was a late nineteenth century house among rows upon rows of houses no older then the late twentieth century. A few months before it had been fixed up, but before that she had even thought of it as beautiful. It had been a dull gray color with shattered windows, shutters falling off, yet there had always been a cirten.. Majestic presence it gave.
Calming. She would sit for hours on the front porch, making sure not to fall into the missing steps, listening to the birds sing or the eerie silence that the snow gave when it absorbed most of the sound around her. People called her strange for this. However, when the home was bought by a wealthy family, seeing the potential she had in it, they began to fix it up.
A pastel green coated the doors, shutters, trimming, and even the roof had nearly the same tone. The walls sanded down and painted a light purple, windows replaced with beautiful stained glass and the steps now stone and had beautiful carving in the sides.. It was breath-taking. A large cherry blossom tree loomed over the sidewalk, dropping small pink petals in the spring on anyone who passes. Green, green grass and raspberry bushes along the wall, a gazebo and at last, the pond.
A true piece of heaven in the hell she lived in. No, she didn't know the people who lived there, mainly because they were never home. But it was a patch of peace she got every so often, even if it meant going late at night and staying for hours. If you can imagine what it looks like, then you can truly see why she comes here, why even unwelcome, she lie in the soft grass in the pitch dark staring into the deep blue sky
Stars twinkled above her, but not for long. There would be a sunrise soon enough, and unfortunately, the people of La Push would be waking soon. It was times like that when she missed Jacob the most. She hadn't seen him in the longest time, yet it didn't seem to matter. he didn't want to see her, then fine, she could deal.. But of how she did indeed crave his company, his carefree grin and his laugh.. And the way he cared.
Christas eyes rose to the shining stars once more, kicking her feet slightly in the water. It was amazing how much you could miss a person even if you barely know them. But Jacob, well, just had something about him that killed her to be away from.

The small tap of feet hitting against concrete could be heard, although the small sound was barely audible. Large, warm hands were tucked casually into the pockets of lightly washed jeans, which were a little frayed on the bottom hem line. Sighs of contentment could be heard from slightly chapped lips, and tired eyes stared down onto the hard pavement from which this currently lonely person walked.
Jacob Black was used to early mornings and late nights, and so walking around before the sun rose was not unusual for him. He had been on patrol for the last few hours of the night. Ever since the new vampire attacked Paul by the border line, Sam had been having the boys on patrol like crazy. Everyone was on their best guard, waiting and anticipating what would happen next. At that moment, Jake just wanted to get away from everything that was going on in his life, and there was someone he knew who could always do just that; Christa.
It seemed like it had been weeks since they had last talked or even hung out, and to be honest he missed her. She could always make him smile, and at that moment all he wanted was to just be in someone's company who could make him laugh and make him feel like everything was okay. Since Annie was always away in Forks with Juno, Jacob was finding himself feeling even more lonely all the time, and he thought that Christa could help fill the loneliness inside of him.
The soft breeze in the air was comforting, and it ruffled the leaves in the nearby trees. For most people, wind would raise goose bumps on their skin, especially if they were bare chested like Jacob was at that very moment. But, Jake was always unnaturally warm and so the chill air did not bother him, which meant that he could walk around without a shirt as much as he pleased. Plus, it was convenient. It was just a hassle to take off your shirt every time you had to phase for something, which was pretty often now a days.
He walked slowly up to the driveway and knocked a few times on her front door, when there was no answer he sighed with disappointment. He stopped for a moment when he thought he heard something in her back yard. So, as curios as he was he walked along the back to see what was the cause of the noise.
His lips pulled up into a wide grin as he saw Christa sitting there. Hopefully she wouldn't mind his company, and if she did Jake really didn't know what he would do. With a small chuckle, he walked over to where she was sitting. "Mind if I sit here with you?" he asked, raising both of his eyebrows in question. Without waiting for an answer he plopped down besides her, and he put his legs out in front of him and leaned back a little, using his arms for support. "It's been a while, and I missed you." he admitted, slowly shrugging his shoulders.

Christa had been laying back on the soft grass, dark hair sprawled about behind her. Her legs were still shin-deep in the freezing water as she watched the sky, now a deep royal blue. Calming.. A small yawn escaped her as she slowly closed her eyes, arms stretching up above her. Days seemed to go by slowly, more slowly then she could ever imagine. At risk of sounding crude, she was beginning to feel Amish. The same schedule day after day.. It got annoying. Wake up. Have breakfast. Take a shower. Watch T.V. Go for a walk. Have lunch. Watch T.V. Go to bed. Annoying.. Nothing had changed except for the occasional thought of Jacob.
Not that she ever regretted meeting him, but he was the only person she could stand, and no longer even had him. More or less, she felt alone. He probably had just forgotten about her, or was preoccupied with whatever so much so that he had no time. Fingers running through the grass mindlessly, Christa sighed. Time dancers ran past her constantly, yet she never seemed to be able to snag one. Or perhaps he'd just been tired of her. Whatever it was, it ate at her. It probably had been something she'd done, and he didn't want to have to bring it up or.. Something. Didn't matter, he just wasn't there anymore.
However, in the mist of thinking this, a voice caught her off guard. Eyes flickering open, her own eyebrows high. "Speak of the devil.." She muttered under her breath, grinning as she sat up. Speak of the devil and the devil shall come. . She should've done it earlier. With that, Christa wrapped her arms around him, laughing slightly. "I forgot how warm you were." He honestly was.. And she honestly had. "I mean, I missed you too."

Jacob was honestly very surprised to see her reaction. He had assumed that she would be angry and upset at him for being such an ass. Jake hadn't even called her in the last few weeks, and he wouldn't have blamed her if she was mad at him. It would have been completely understandable. He smiled a little, glad that she didn't get all worked up for suddenly disappearing for a little bit.
A small chuckle escaped from his mouth, and he wrapped his arms around her. He hoped that his warmness wasn't a problem for her. If it was...well, that just wouldn't do. "Sorry for not calling or anything. Things have been pretty hectic lately for me." he explained, glancing down at her for a moment with a grin still on his lips.
He glanced down at the pond, and figured that her legs were probably freezing. He ran a few of his fingers through the water, and then pulled his hand out. With a small laugh, he flicked a few of the water droplets on his hand onto Christa.
"So what is up with Miss Christa?" he asked, arching his right eye brow at her. "How's life?" His childish grin appeared onto his lips again, full of amusement and humor. He glanced back at the pond for a moment, and sighed deeply. It was nice to talk to someone about something that didn't involve vampires or treaties.

Her bright blue eyes had seemed to light up with his presence as she released him, feet swaying in the water causing it to ripple, distorting any image it withheld. Though, pausing lightly, Christa gave him a strange look. "Why in the world are you up at four in the morning, or did you just wake up and tell yourself that you were going to come see me?" Seemed a bit odd to her, but it didn't matter. Nothing mattered right about them, except for the fact that he was there.
Matching his grin, Christa couldn't help but shrug slightly. "It's okay.. you're here now, right? At least, I think you are. Either that or I'm hilusinating. Wouldn't be surprised." Laughing at herself more then anything, Christa glanced back down at the rippling pond. She was slowly driving herself insane, having nothing to do in this blasted down.. Honestly! You would think that she would find something, anything. But no.
Squeeling slightly as the water hit her, Christa chringed, holding her arms up to block her face from the sprinkling liquid."Thanks." Shaking her head, Christa once more turned her attention to the sky, still dark yet you could tell the sun was beginning to rise.
"Slowly driving myself insane, you?" Rubbing her eyes, Christa yawned slightly, eyes squinted shut for that split second. "Life.. Boring. Like, seriously. I just want to shoot myself in the face, there's nothing to do around here.. Eh." The smile on his face, only caused her to smile, something that she had missed within the last few weeks.

Jacob furrowed his eyebrows a little at her question. It probably hadn't been a good idea to appear at her door step at four in the morning. He mentally slapped himself for being so stupid, he should have at least waited until the sun came up. Shaking his head, he shrugged it off. Jake probably wouldn't have been able to wait that long anyways. "I like starting the day early." he lied, slowly shrugging his shoulders. The truth was that he had been out on patrol, but he couldn't really tell Christa about that. "Remember on the beach when we talked about how I like to be around people who can take me away from everyday life? Well, you are one of those people who can do that for me." he laughed softly. "I needed to get away from life."
He pulled away from her a bit and ran his fingers through the water again, but he didn't splash her this time. "You are definitely not hallucinating. I am really here." he responded, glancing down at her.
"What have I been up to?" he asked, repeating her question. "Not a whole lot, just trying to get through life." he replied, glancing away for a moment. He turned to her and shook his head, grinning. "Please don't shoot yourself in the face." he said, fighting back a smile. "Then I would be left here all alone to slowly drive myself insane."

Laughing, Christa shrugged. "Sleeping is over-rated." Actually, she hadn't been able to sleep. She'd come out side to relax and sit by the pond for something to do, re-runs of Futurama and Family Guy just wasn't doing it for her.. Honestly. "I don't mind, though. People annoy me. So I'm stuck here all the time." She'd rather be with Jacob then be alone looking like a lunatic splashing around in a pond at four in the morning. "Well, away you've come. You can always come see me.. You know that." At least, he should. Christa would always enjoy a visit from Jacob, and seeing as it was four in the morning then.. Time didn't seem to matter much.
"That's a good thing, then. I don't have to check myself into a mental hospital.. Been there, done that, not fun. my parents think I'm crazy, so when I was fourteen, i was there for a month and a half.. I met this seven year old that plotted to kill her parents. Really messed up stuff." Shaking slightly with laughter, remembering the small girl with the long blonde hair that spoke only in a whisper.
"Life annoys me.. People annoy me. Cept' you, of course." Life was over rated. Still, she grudgingly went though it day after day, watching the clock slowly tick. And did it tick.. So much so that she had broken the one on the wall because it was annoying her. She could've just taken the batteries out, but she found it more suiting to throw it across the room. "Fine. Just for you, I won't shoot myself in the face. As long as you promise to come see me more."

Jacob laughed a little and shook his head in disagreement. He loved sleeping, he just never had time for it. His body had started to adapt to lack of sleep, which was good. He grimaced when he remembered when he first had to start taking patrols. His body ached all the time and he was constantly tired all the time. Yes, he was usually tired now a days too, but it wasn't nearly as bad as it used to be. When she said people annoyed her, he hoped that he didn't annoy her. The last thing he wanted was to hang out with someone who found him annoying. He arched his right eyebrow, "Really?" he asked, cocking his head to the side. "Whenever I want?...." he glanced away for a moment and then smiled. "I guess you'll be seeing more of me then."
He rose his eyebrows in disbelief. "You went to a mental hospital?" he said, grinning a little. "I definitely want to hear that story." he glanced away for a moment when she spoke about the 7 year old who planned to kill her parents. That just sounded creepy and wrong, and he cringed a little at the thought of it, but he soon smiled again when she stared laughing.
Jake nodded his head in agreement, "Yes, I promise to come around more often if you promise not to shoot yourself in the face." he responded. He put his right hand out and grabbed her hand and slowly shook it, "Okay, we have a deal." he laughed as he let his hand fall back down at his side. "I'm glad that I don't annoy you. If you couldn't stand me I don't know what I would do."

Christa attempted to cock an eyebrow, like he had, but ened up squeeling slightly and falling backward. She didn't get how people did that, and always wanted to do it herself.. Only she never could. However, as she sat up, a soft smile was placed upon her lips. "I'll have a key made for you." She laughed, pulling her feet out of the water and shivvering slightly. It had cooled off from when she first came outside, and noted. With the sleeve of her hoodie, Christa dried her legs as much as she could, pulling her knees to her chest. "But really.. I like, never go out, and don't sleep because it's over rated, so stop by whenever." Shrugging slightly, Christa rested her chin on her knees, still smiling.
Toying with the end of the sleeve of her hoodie, Christa shrugged. "They thought I was going to kill myself." With that, Christa yanked up the sleeve to her elbow, revealing row after row of faint scars, one rather large one that stuck out a bit more that ran from the crese of her elbow to half way down her wrist. "I regret it now because whenever I would go in for a job interview I would have to wear a long sleeve shirt or a hoodie so they wouldn't see, people judge you by things like this." Her tiny, pale fingers traced the large scar, her eyes kept down and away from him.
Unike now-a-days, cutting wasn't normal. It was something you did to help get away from anything, and not for attention. Shaking his hand and laughing lightly, Christa let her hand drop to her side. "I told you before.. you're, like, the only person that doesn't annoy the hell out of me." Once more, it was true. Jake never seemed to annoy her, except for the fact that she hadn't seen him in such a long time.

Jacob laughed when she fell backwards, attempting to raise an eyebrow. He had always been able to raise just one, and he was very talented because not only could he raise its left by itself, he could also raise his right. Yes, Jake was a very talented young man. "A key would be very nice." he joked, chuckling along with her. "I'm never at home." he said quietly, glancing down at her. Jake was always too busy to just lounge around at home. This was one of the many things he missed when he was still human; lounge time.
Jake looked down at her with concern, and he titled his head to the side a little when she showed him her scars. He grabbed her arm gently and slowly ran his warm fingers over the scars, feeling the raised lines that ran up and down her forearm. With a small sigh he released her arm and didn't ask anymore questions about the matter, it was pretty obvious that she didn't want to discuss it. "Yeah, that would kinda suck." he agreed, slowly nodding his head. "I'd never judge you." he replied quietly, glancing down t her.
He snickered at her comment, glad and happy that he didn't annoy her. He was amused by how they had suddenly started talking like it had been only yesterday when they had first met. "That's weird. How come I don't annoy you like most people?" he asked curiously.

Crossing her legs, Christas eyebrows pulled together slightly. "Why not?" Someone their age should have enough down tome to chill out and relax, christa usually had a bit to much to handel at times. She could never figure out what she should do with it to make it useful, always on something pointless. "But if you really want one, I have a spare in the mail-box. When I do go out.. I usually forget mine."
Jacob was perhaps one of the only people she'd ever shown her scars, aside from her parents and even they had taken quite a bit of time to figure out what she was doing to herself, and why she never wore short-sleeve-shirts. However, there was an ashamed look upon her face as he examined them, a blush settling onto her cheeks. Things like that arn't.. Normal. Not in a small town like La Push or Forks. "It does.. But I've gotten use to it, ya know? Not being able to do cirten things because of it. It's just something you learn to deal with."
"I really don't think I should tell you." Sighing, Christa looked back at the rippling water. It wouldn't be the best of ideas to tell Jacob how she felt, and then to be rejected, well it would make it awkward between them.. Very. And she highly doubted that their deal would still stand after that.

Jacob pursed his lips together in thought, trying to think of an excuse as to why he was never at home. "I'm just busy all the time. Especially in the last few weeks, which is why I haven't been able to come and visit in such a long." he responded, turning so that he was facing her a little more. "Key or no key, I will find a way to come a visit you and steal some of your pancakes every now and again." he chuckled, remembering when he had come over for breakfast.
"I get what you mean; having to get used to something that isn't really very good in your life." he replied, shrugging his shoulders. He could phase into a giant wolf, and that definitely took some getting used to. Jake understood what she was saying.
"Why not? I really want to know." he said quietly in retort. He pouted playfully, turning away from her for a moment. He chuckled, "If you don't want to tell me, that's totally fine." he added, turning towards her again.

"You better, otherwise I"ll be forced to shoot myself in the face."Grinning, Christa hoped that he didn't take it as a different meaning since she showed him her scars, because she honestly didn't mean it that way. She meant that well, she didn't know what she would do without him. Well.. She kinda did. Absolutly nothing is what she did when he had been gone for so long. "I'll stock up on pancake mix, I promise."
"Or not being about to be around cirten people, tell them what's going on because you think they'll judge you?" It was nice to have someone to relate to.. Well, perhaps she would a bit more if she would talk to different people, but that wasn't going to happen.
Sighing, Christa kept her gaze away from him. "Please don't hate me?" She said before grimacing, closing her eyes. "I guess it's because.. Well, I feel different around you. I don't have to be like everyone else.. And maybe I like you more then I should." Simple enough way to put it.. Right?

Jacob chuckled, and did not take her words literally. He knew she was only kidding, because he highly doubted that she would actually shoot herself. Well, he hoped she wouldn't, that definitely would not be good for him. "I will most definitely be stopping by to eat some pancakes every now and again." he responded, grinning a little down at her.
"I get what you mean about being afraid to tell people something because they might judge you." he replied, glancing down at the pond. He grabbed a few rocks beside him and skipped it across the water. He had always been good at skipping stones across water. All those days on the beach with Bella gave him lots of time to practice.
He cocked his head to the side and gave her a curious look. "I would never hate you, Christa. You know that." he said quietly. "More then you should? What do you mean by that?" he asked, raising both of his eyebrows a little bit. "How much should you like me then?"

"Because they're deliciously evil." Christa grinned, laughing lightly. For anyone who was awake that early, and passed, would've thought they were quite odd looking. Sitting by a pond at four thirty in the morning with nothing to do with talk, splashing about like children.. But it honestly didn't matter right about then, it never seemed to when Jacob was around.
Carmine lips parted slightly as she watched him skip stones, momentarily quiet. It was nice to be able to open up to someone without having to worry about being judged or talked about behind her back. Someone she could.. Trust. The word was foreign in her mind. Trust wasn't something she was use to, being conservative was just in her nature. "Sometimes you wish that it just never happened." She said softly, glancing up at him.
Crystal eyes, shining even in the dark, were reflected back as well as her delicate face as she glared, watching the rippling water from the stones. One action created another. One thing caused another to change. Pulling her knees to her chest, Christa rested her chin on the top, sitting silent for a moment. She had at least thought she put it in a way he could understand, but apparently she had been wrong.
Finally, however, Christa swallowed. Why did it feel like her heart jumped in her throat? Honestly, she'd told a thousand guys she'd liked them, but she had always been the type to be non-sealant about it. That, and the strange part was well, she usually liked jerks. Probably why the relationships never lasted. But Jacob was not a jerk.. No where near. "When I met you, I thought you were just going to be someone I bugged for a while.. But that's not the case." Pausing, Christa sighed. This was harder then she thought it would be. "And when I found that you were, well, just going to be a friend.. That wasn't the case. I got more emotions then I bargained for." If that didn't work... Nothing would get through his head.
